The National Exercise Referral Scheme (NERS) in Merthyr Tydfil is part of the NERS for Wales; a Welsh Government (WG) funded scheme to standardise exercise referral opportunities across all Local Authorities and Local Health Boards in Wales.
The scheme targets clients who are at risk of developing chronic disease by providing an opportunity to access a high quality supervised exercise programme to improve health and wellbeing.
The scheme offers clients the opportunity to build more physical activity in to their lives by taking part in fun, gentle activity sessions such as aqua aerobics, zumba, bowls, walking groups, circuits and gym taster sessions.
To access the scheme you will need to be referred by a fully qualified health professional, such as your local doctor, practice nurse or physiotherapist.
Once you are referred, one of our Exercise Professionals will meet with you to find out a little more about your health history, carry out some basic health checks and discuss the range of activities that are suitable for you. They will then continue to help and support you throughout the scheme.
As part of the scheme you will benefit from:
- A consultation and subsequent checkups with a fully qualified, specially trained Exercise Professional
- A variety of activities at a discounted price for the 16 weeks you are on the scheme
- The option of a discounted membership afterwards
